Charles T. Carr
President & Consulting Actuary

Mr. Carr is a 1984 graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Management Science. 

He worked as an Actuarial Analyst with Towers, Perrin, Forster & Crosby in San Francisco, California through 1986.  He then moved to Los Angeles and subsequently Atlanta as an Associate Actuary with the Wyatt Company (currently known as Watson-Wyatt Worldwide) through 1994.  Finally, before founding Southern Actuarial Services in 1998, he worked as a Consulting Actuary with Buck Consultants in Atlanta, Georgia.  As President and Consulting Actuary with Southern Actuarial Services, Mr. Carr serves a wide variety of clients, including corporate, multi-employer, and public pension plans.

Mr. Carr's professional associations include:

  • Associate of the Society of Actuaries (A.S.A.)

  • Enrolled Actuary under E.R.I.S.A.

  • Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (M.A.A.A.)

  • Member of the American Society of Pension Actuaries (M.S.P.A.)

  • Served for three years on the actuarial/consultants committee for the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (I.F.E.B.P.)

In addition, Mr. Carr has been published as the author of the first chapter of the I.F.E.B.P.'s Multi-Employer 401(k)/Defined Contribution Plan Guide.

Also (as if he doesn't have enough to do!), he is a frequent speaker and lecturer.  Past engagements have included the Florida Public Plan Trustee School in Tallahassee, Florida; the Enrolled Actuaries meeting in Washington, D.C.; the I.F.E.B.P.'s Annual Benefits Conference and New Trustee Institute.  Recent topics have included pension funding concepts and deferred retirement option plans (DROPs).
